Hi, new guy here. :)
After many weeks of researching subs I've decided on the HSU VTF-1 and just placed the order for the VTF-1... :)
The room/area that the sub will be placed in is 13'X15'... my living room with an 8' ceiling. The room is a little odd in the sense that it has 2 doorways... one leading to the kitchen, the other leading out to the foyer.
Here is are a couple of images of the space...

You can see where I currently have my old sub located... Would this spot be ok for the HSU as well, or should I try to place it somewhere else in the room.
Any advice is certainly welcomed. :)

Hi j,
Note that the VTF-1 is much larger than the current sub you have, so it would be a pretty tight fit up front. I would definitely experiment with some other positions such as the rear right hand corner (close to where the plant is located).
Take care, and let me know how it goes!
Sincerely,

I was going to ask if you had looked at the dimensions of the VTF. :D
I agree with Pete on back in the corner behind the couch where the plant is.

Thanks for the replies...
I did check the dimensions of the sub before ordering. :)
When the sub comes in I'll place it in the back corner of the room and listen. I think I had read somewhere that placing a sub behind you (listening area) isn't a good idea...? Of course I've so much about subs in the last few weeks I'm probably mixing information up at the point. :o

Do the crawl test. That'll give you a good idea where to start. Keep in mind that moving a sub just a few inches in, out, sideways, can make a difference. You can do this with the doors open and closed. You'll notice a difference. Oh, one more thing. Buy some weather striping for the doors. That is one thing Pete does not supply with his subs. Sorry Pete. :D

LOL @ amd, where would we be without Home Depot? :D
jswanson, placing it in a back corner should be fine as long as you don't cross over the subwoofer higher than about 80Hz. The Onkyo has a nice 24db/octave low-pass rolloff slope, so the subwoofer should not be very localizeable.

Well, I received the HSU sub today! :)
I'm extremely happy with it. After placing in various locations in the living room, the back corner is the winner. ;)

I tried different settings and tweaked this and that... It sounds awesome!
I do have one question though...
I have the sub plugged into the Onkyo sub LFE output. Is it ok to use the sub crossover when using the LFE option. The reason I'm asking is because I tried with(in) and without(out).... and it sounds much better when using the subs crossover. The bass is alot tighter and cleaner... I just want to make sure I'm not going to damage anything by using this setting.
Two thumbs up to HSU! ;)
