Hsu suggests the tweeters be at ear height. To achieve that with a typical sofa, you should get taller stands — something around 26 - 28". (On the other hand, if you have a low seat, like a futon sofa, those might be ideal.)
Just my 2¢.

I own these stands and my HB-1 MK2s have been happily sitting on them for more than a year now. They are a great value. Sanus has good customer service too.

Thanks for the help - I'll be sitting on an IKEA futon/couch so I'll go with these 24".

I ordered these 24-30" adjustable ones from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006G1IJ0), both for mains and surrounds. I'll report back on how they work out.

Don't forget the Blu-Tack. Here's a link http://www.amazon.com/Blu-Tack-Reusable-Adhesive/dp/B001FGLX72/ref=pd_sim_e_2

I came across these (http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=240-762) speaker stands with an adjustable base (but are too small for the HB1-MK2), and what really appealed to me is the way that the base clamps to the speakers much in the same way that these (http://www.amazon.com/Rocelco-B-Tech-BT77-Ultragrip-Loudspeaker/dp/B004DCAOHK) wall mount speaker mounts do (I own these wall mounts for my rears, and they're wonderful).
Does anyone know of clamping speakers stands for the fronts with an 8" opening? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
As a side note, if anyone knows of white speaker stands that would work for the HB1-MK2s, I would be interested in knowing about those as well. I have no idea why white is such a rare color option for speaker stands (or speakers, for that matter) when it blends into the background much better on white walls than black does.
Edit: what center channel wall mount shelf have people found works for the HC1-MK2?
