Is a regular audio cable Y splitter OK, or is there a special co-ax Y splitter that will work better ?

Nothing special needed in terms of y-connector, a regular cable should be fine.

Thanks Pete. I guess a corollary to that question is just what type of cable is best for the analog subw signal. I bought a 35 foot cable advertised for subw use and it turns out to be RG59u with its solid conductor of about 20 Ga or so, thick polyethylene insulation and copper shield. Is this better than standard audio cable, which I think is stranded 18 or 20 Ga shielded cable with much less insulation? I would think solid and stranded would offer some different electrical properties, though not necessarily significant.
