Place for front speakers

Front speakers...

Hi! I was wondering, most people look for stands to put the speakers, is there any reason to not use a shelf on the same wall where the TV is mounted on? Less chances to have the speaker falling on the floor because bad stability or a person cleaning.... or a flying toy :-)

That would be fine as long as it is a front ported or sealed speaker. Even then its ok as long as there is a few inches of clearence between the back of the speaker and the wall.

Another thing so consider is that speakers sound the best when the tweeter is about ear level, if it is too high the sound will sound less clear.
