I'm having built-in cabinets made for my family room, which
is where my home theater is located.
I'm wondering about where and how to locate the subwoofer.
Do I have a space built same size as the sub, a certain size
larger? Am I better off using two VTF2's or one VTF3?
Will these subs work in a cabinet or will the porting cause a problem.
Let me know if you need any more specifics on my setup
Thanks,

I would recommend going with one VTF-3. You can orient the VTF-3 so its side faces into the room. That allows you to have a shallower cabinet. You need three inches of clearance between the heat sink and the side of the cabinet, and two inches of clearance between the woofer and the side of the cabinet. The sides of the enclosure can be within half an inch of the rear of your cabinet.

My cabinet will be 24" deep. Is that deep enough to face forward?
Or does it matter?
With "side facing the room" , I assume you mean with the ports,
and woofer, facing to the right and left within the cabinet space.
So I would need a space that was 27" wide, 21" tall, and at least 16" deep.

Doesn't this create weird reflections or muddy bass?

The VTF-3 is 22 inches deep, so 24 is an inch shy of the required depth.

Putting the sub in the cabinet can change the sound in a similar way to putting it into the corner. There will be more reflections, and it may sound better or worse depending on your particular cabinet and room. Some cabinets are more open than others. I think it takes a little experimentation to know for sure. There is a 30 day guarantee on the subwoofer, so if it doesn't work, you can ship it back.

However, facing it sideways is not taboo, since the cabinet, woofer, and ports work in concert to eminates bass.
