Pete, can you expalin the advantage of adding a MBM-12 to my existing VTF2.3 VS adding a 2nd VTF2.3? I figure that with 2 2.3's I can close a port & go for maximum extension & yet with a 2nd sub get 3db of headroom for better impact(slam) during movie LFE's. I recently re-arranged the furniture in my theater room, so nearfield placement is a possibility. The hard part will be running wire across to the back of the room, since I have laminate floors. I would probably have to buy a 'Y' splitter, run 1 cable to the existing sub & the 2nd cable up into the attick & down the back wall. For a run of about 35' like this should I convert to COAX or maybe CAT-5 & back to RCA at a wall plate to avoid RFI? I've seen others complain about their long rca cables picking up radio stations. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Scott,

How large is your room (HxWxD), and does it open to any other areas of the house? Have you had a chance to try the VTF-2 MK3 in the nearfield position yet?

The dual VTF-2 MK3 would of course have the advantage in deep bass output. But the MBM-12 + VTF-2 MK3 would have the advantage in mid-bass output and lower intermodulation distortion, while making it more likely to get a flatter mid-bass response in your room.

So if you feel your current setup lacks most in mid-bass slam and impact, then it would probably make sense to add an MBM-12. But if you feel your current setup lacks most in deep bass impact, then it would probably make sense to add another VTF-2 MK3.

Sincerely,

Exactly. I couldn't agree more...

the room is 12 x 20 x (8 - 10 vaulted)
1 door kept closed to small half bath
1 door kept closed to small laundry room
1 door kept closed to back yard
open doorway to large kitchen-> 11 x 19 x (8 - 10 vaulted)

Would putting a door in the open doorway help?
It would certainly reduce the sound getting to the rest of the house.
I will try moving the sub next to the couch & see if it helps.
How do I know if it is deep bass or mid bass that is lacking? I am missing the
hit in the chest feeling others talk about. I have classic Polk Monitor 10's as my mains, crossed over to the 2.3 at 80hz that I can easily change if you think it would help.
