i am planning on purchasing within the next couple of days an ASW-1203 subwoofer for installation into my car. can anyone (Sasha??) tell me whether the Rockford Fosgate 401 S amplifier will be a good match?

Rockford Fosgate 401 S (http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/ROC401S)

my only concern between this and other amplifiers is the fact that it's not 2-ohm rated at the bridged 400W X 1 specification. i've always had great luck w/ RF equipment and this amp at $160 seems to be a great deal.

also, will the following enclosure's "hole" be the right size for the ASW-1203 and is it big enough with the 400W power rating of the above amp?

"Small" sealed 12-inch enclosure (http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/RTE31112)

thanks a million!

Hi Joe - I have 2 of them in my trunk , (custom) driven by 1 JL 500/1. ( I know they are underpowered)

I can't help with that amp question (I'd say get a 500w amp) but this is the box Sasha recommends:

Keep us posted.

Tom,

Did you build or buy the box you have them in? Just taking a quick look at the sounddomain boxes - I'd be worried that they might come apart at the seams after a beating with the ASW1203. I'm curious if a lightly built box like those could really stay together. Never tried one, as I've built all my enclosures.

Joe, you should be fine. The 1203 is 4 ohms and if you use one (as it sounded) you're set. But if you're planning on 2 then I would move up to a 2ohm stable amp...no sense toasting your new amp! I've had great performance with Rockford amps on subs. They tend to exhibit great control at higher power than most amps out there. What vehicle are you putting it in?? I'm looking at doing 2 in my van, but having heard the TN1220's at home now wonder if my dentist may not like that idea :D

hi Mark - It was built by a stereo shop into the wheel well.

That box was suggested by Sasha, so I'd say it is strong enough.
