Im thinking of buying an mbm and wanted to know if i would still get the tactile effect im looking for if i dont listen at higher volume? On movies i usually listen at -35 or at most -30 on my receiver.

You will get a nice effect even if it is not that loud. However a little louder will give you more kick...
Anyway the MBM-12 has more definition at that frequencies than the other big drivers from your true sub...

how hot do you run your sub and mbm? like 3 db? right now i have to run my sub 5 db hot because of my lack of midbass. it wouldnt be so bad but my crappy receiver only has 100 hz for lowest x-over.

There is nothing wrong with a 100hz xover. I run mine at 150hz with full tower speakers.

Hey Andrew,
What subwoofer are you using right now? Also, where is the subwoofer located?
If you could also provide some info about your room dimensions, that would be helpful.
Sincerely,

Sincerely,
im using a stf-2 in the front left corner in a room roughly 13x12 that opens to a small kitchen and dining area. ill attack a diagram. i sit in the chair directly across from the tv.

Andy, since your have a good-sized room that opens to the kitchen, I think you would benefit most by getting a larger true sub. VTF-2 MK3 or VTF-3 MK3 running in max output mode should do the trick :)

the VTF-2 MK3 is in my price range. so running in max output should mean better midbass than i have with the stf-2 right? Also max output will have bass extension down to 25 hz vs 18 in max extension correct?

Even in max extension mode, the VTF-2 MK3 will have significantly more mid-bass punch and impact than the STF-2. In max output mode, the subwoofer should extend to 20Hz in most rooms. Max extension mode will give true 16Hz extension.
