I have a VTF2-MK3 placed nearfield that doubles as an end table. To further integrate the sub into the room I'm looking for ways to make it "look" more like an end table. I'm considering either a wood (preferred) or glass top cut to size to fit the top of the sub.
A couple of questions:
1. Will this affect sound quality in anyway?
2. Should I use felt pads or something similar to keep the top from vibrating on the top of the sub?
3. Anything else I need to consider?
Thank in advance for any help,
Ken

A wood or glass top won't effect the sound quality. If you get a glass top, your glass company should provide you with some round plastic spacers that go between the glass and the sub. These are typically used when putting glass on a desk or tabletop. You also want to get tempered glass.

When you decide and get it done, please post some pictures. I'm looking for ideas for the same thing.
Thanks.

Hi rallen,
I did an experiment last weekend with an oak top from a serving tray and ran it by my wife. She didn't like the look of it because there was such a high contrast between the black of the sub and the yellow-orange tone of the oak. I'll try to take a picture of it so you can see what it looked like. I did stop by the glass shop yesterday and got a quote on a tempered glass top. About $76 for 16" x 22" x 1/2" thick with polished edges. The guy at the glass store recommended using some clear poly feet from 3M called "bumpon". The part he recommended was SJ-6506.
I'll keep you posted as I figure it out.

I can see what she means with the contrast of the oak and the sub. Something like glass though, especially maybe a smoked glass might look good. Amazing what glass can cost too when you get away from plain old plate glass.
Thanks for the update.
