Hello,

I just got my HSU STF-2 and love it! Especially in movies .. GREAT BASS!

However ... I have a question in regard to my setup. I think crossovers (or new reciever) is the solution, but I wanted to run this by the 'experts'.

My STF-2 will not run while watching my basic cable service (which I have connected via VCR (Hi-Fi stereo) into Digital Decoder (line in) for stereo. Also my STF will not run if listening to my tuner (radio stations). I understand why this is happening due to my current setup, but I was hoping to perhaps use crossovers to allow my STF to work while listening to my basic cable service or radio tuner. Can this be done? I understand I am having this problem because my sub is not connected directly to my reciever.

My setup:

Pioneer VSX - D457 (has 5.1 inputs) 100x5 watts
Technics SH-AC500D (Digital Decoder (DTS, DD, ProLogic)(external)
Apex 600a DVD
Orion Hi-Fi stereo VCR
Bose AM10 series II (5 double cube arrays and bass module)
HSU STF-2

Currently ... only my DVD player is using one of three digital inputs on my digital decoder.

the HSU STF-2 is connected to Sub out of my Technics digital decoder (using mono cable).

My digital decoder is hooked into the 5.1 inputs on my reciever.

My basic cable service (coax) is running into my Stereo VCR .. then from the VCR (2) channel stereo outputs into the Line input of my Digital Decoder. (I also connected VCR directly to reciever w/ same results)

With the use of the crossovers on my sub, can I eliminate this problem?

Is it bad to use both LFE input (mon cable) and crossover connection simultaneously on my sub?

I know if I had a modern reciever with built in digital decoder i would not have this problem. But, i was hoping to avoid having to purchase a new reciever as I am very happy with the output of my existing setup.

Any help is appreciated.

I don't think that using the subwoofer's crossover is the best solution.

If you can, set the Left and Right Front channels to SMALL on the Technics SH-AC500D decoder. This sends bass to the subwoofer on all two channel material as well, instead of sending it to your mains.

thank you for responding.

I have all speakers set to small on my Technics.

My STF-2 does not work w/ my radio tuner nor VCR ... works great via DVD player. I am presuming this so because the STF 2 is tied to my external decoder instead of directly to receiver. When I play the radio tuner, it bypasses my Technics.

I'm not sure on the VCR though .. as I had the 2 channel stereo outputs connected directly to receiver or DD with the same result (speakers work .. except for the sub) ... sub is enabled on reciever and decoder. Not sure what else it could be ... any ideas?

Here is how I corrected my problem:

Originally it was suggested by Hsu that I connect my sub directly to my Technics decoder ... and indeed this worked for my DVD player (MP3s, Movies etc). But, my radio tuner and cable service via stereo VCR would not send signal to the STF-2 ... just 'bass module'.

I connected a cable from the Sub Out of my DD to my 5.1 Sub input on my old Pioneer (w/ 5.1 inputs). Then ... from my Pioneer Pre-Out Sub output to the STF-2.

Radio, VCR, DVD and any other source now run my STF-2! YaY!

Thank you HSU for a house shaking experience.
