Pete,

My ULS-15's are sitting directly on my carpet, which is on top of a concrete floor. The combined thickness of the carpet and padding is approximately 1.25 inches. What is your opinion regarding using carpet spikes?

- Don't bother, it won't make any difference.
- Highly recommended, and will likely result in improved bass performance.
- Not sure--try it to see what happens.

Has anyone else tried spikes?

Thanks for your opinion.
Jerry

It could help by decoupling from room mode, rather than no legs.. Ideally to escape room mode a riser is a better choice.
One way to check is by placing a pillow/seat cushion under the sub and use a SP meter at your seating position. (do a before and after).
Risers are never bad thing and are easily built. Building a Sub trap (it acts as a riser as well) can even be more dramatic.

I considered getting Auralex sub stands, but the Subdude and the Gramma are both too small for the ULS-15, and the Great Gramma is too large.

Pete, any opinion from Hsu regarding spikes?

Hi Jerry,

I would be surprised if there was any noticeable difference between the brass spiked feet and rubber feet on the ULS-15. That said, it certainly doesn't hurt to try it and take measurements before and after the change.

Sincerely,

I guess I overthought your question. I read it as you had the sub on the ground with no feet.

I ordered a set. I'll report back my findings. At a minimum, I'm expecting a placebo effect--I'll just feel better with the subs firmly anchored to the floor. :p

OK, I received and installed the spikes. I can't measure any differences in bass response. Subjectively, everything sounds the same. However, the subs aren't going to scoot across the carpet anytime soon. :p The subs are approximately 1/4 inch off the carpet surface now (the carpet plus pad is 1.25 inches thick). The spikes have an M6 thread (same as the rubber feet).
