The communication has been nothing but terrible on this entire issue...below are two statements that contradict one another, no?

The first batch of STF-3s were accidentally specified with the amplifier parameters for max. extension. Hence, the first batch of STF-3s have had their ports tuned for max. extension and are basically equal to the VTF-3 in max. extension.

Future production runs will be set to max. output mode, so if you want to get a STF-3 in max. extension, now is your chance.

...VTF subwoofers have customizable tuning, so they can play either loud or low. VTF stands for "variable tuning frequencies". This technology uses a combination of port plugging and electronic compensation.

STF subwoofers, on the other hand, are fixed in one setting--without the option of changing the tuning. STF stands for "single tuning frequency." The STF-2, for example, is similar to the VTF-2 except it is set to play low (down to 25 Hz) and not as loud.

Message 1 says all future STF's will be Max Output. Message 2 says that the STF-2 is designed for Max Extension(set to play low) and NOT Max Output.

So which is it for the STF's????

Furthermore, if the STF's are designed for Max Ext, shouldn't the STF go as low as the VTF? For the STF-3/VTF-3 this is not the case as the STF-3 goes to 25 htz and the VTF-3 goes to 20htz?

Thanks, maybe, for clearing this up,
T

The tuning parameter difference depends on which one you get.

From what I gathered in the above threads and elsewhere;

The STF-3 is supposed to be set set for Max Output (hence less low end response than the VTF-3)

The STF-2 is set for max extension. (hence it matches the VTF-2 low end response)

The initial batch of STF-3s were "accidentaly" set to Max Extension, so they should play down to 20 Hz.

So if you want a VTF-3 that plays low, get one now.
If you want one that plays loud, wait.

Mud?

mitro was trying to say to get the STF3 that plays low now (not VTF3)

Sorry to add to the confusion.

The initial batch was mistakenly put in max EXTENSION mode, because of a miscommunication with the factory during the busy Holiday Season. However, we are not changing the official specs at this point because:

1) The current STF-3 has a frequency response spec DEEPER than listed. To most on this forum, that means better.
2) Guture production modes into Max OUTPUT, as planned.

As of today, there are a few weeks worth of STF-3s in Max extension mode left. After that, there is going to be a backorder until the next shipment comes.

Hey Sahsa - if the STF3 is being reviewed now, did the reviewer get the Max Out or Max Ext version?

I ordered an STF-3 that shipped out yesterday, would it be set at max extension or max output? Are all of the current batch of STF-3's in max extension?

All the current batch is max extension.
