Hi,

Just got my VTF-15 yesterday. Looks like FED Ex drove a forklift into the side. Luckily only a tiny nick smaller then a 1/8 headphone plug. Not worth sending back over. Thing is a LOT bigger in person. The website pics really don't give you any sense of scale. Wife just about filed for divorce when she saw it. :) Luckily it's for the dedicated theater room which I've been given "rights" to.

Just done a little playing around. Not as thrown to my feet as I was expecting. 1 port plugged seems to be the best balance. I will say I never knew what people meant by pressurizing a room. Ears popping with ports open. :) Does seem like I have to have the volume knob at 1/2 way which worries me a bit. Especially after reading the Audioholics review. I'm wondering if this really is under powered. I have a Martin Logan Dynamo 10" upstairs which really rumbles at the 11 o'clock position. Would it have really cost that much more to do a 500w? Need to play around and configure still. May buy an SMS-1 as well.

More later...

Hi Mark,

The sensitivity of the volume control can be easily adjusted by the designer. So having the volume knob 1/2 way up doesn't indicate that the subwoofer is at half power. The subwoofer level depends also on how high the subwoofer channel level is coming from the A/V receiver.

I recommend setting the volume knob to 1/4 of the way up, and then adjust the subwoofer channel level upwards in 1dB increments on the A/V receiver.

This subwoofer is definitely not underpowered! That amplifier can deliver quite a lot of power in short-term bursts.

Let us know if you need any advice with respect to placement and/or settings.

Thanks

Sincerely,

Mark, that review is so far from the truth, trust me. Give the vtf15h a little brake in time, you will love the sub.

I prefer to set the gain low and make my adjustments in the AVR.. I doubt my gain is even over 8 and half. Much over 9 o'clock and my AVR bitches that the sub is too loud during calibration.

It's not only about Watts, it only sounds like it's a bigger deal than it is. Sorta like a Mustang V8 with 600hps vs my Porsche that has a Flat 6 and 250hps.
