How did this come about and how would you say your VTF-3 integrates with their CBM-170 bookshelf speakers?
Thanks for your wonderful products...were all grateful. :)

I think it came about since Dave and Dr. Hsu know each other, and Dr. Hsu appreciated what the Ascends offer for the money. Dave is a wonderful guy that makes great loudspeakers. Although we don't advertise it, we like Ascend speakers enough to sell them ourselves, for people who ask to buy them. We match Dave's prices. We offer this purely as a convenience for our customers.
I personally use the Ascend CMBs at home with a VTF-2, and find that when in the sweetspot, they fill my medium sized room quite nicely. They integrate very nicely. I tried them with the VTF-3 briefly and they also worked well together. Plus, they share a similar appearance with their rounded corners. As an added piece of information, Dr. Hsu uses the HTM-200 in his demo room much of the time. Other times he uses Moth speakers and the Mackie HR824 studio monitors.

I too have the Ascend Acoustic CBM-170's along with their new center speaker the CMT-340 (not out yet in full production). Combined with your HSU VTF-3 it makes for quite an impressive system. I've had the combo for about a month now and still :) every time I listen to it.

Cane,
I'm on the list for the new center! Please let me know your thoughts on it. How does it compare to the CBM-170 as a center?

You will love it.
It has two of the CBM-170 6.5 woofers and in the middle is the same 1' dome tweeter that's in the CBM-170 only it has a wide dispersion faceplate. It integrates perfectly with the 170's and really makes the voices and center material come alive in HT stuff.
Enjoy.

Nice....the new center should be out soon! Ascend told me in two weeks I should be hearing something...that was a week ago.
I can move the CBM-170 into my bedroom with my old HK receiver, buy another CBM-170 and a VTF-2!! Sweet!! Now I just need to come up with the cash! :)

Actually it is not the same tweeter with a wide dispersion faceplate, it is a different tweeter. Jason Fab mentioned this fact over on HomeTheaterForum - he stated that it is a new tweeter offered by Audax (the supplier of all of their drivers). If you look on Audax's website you can find specs on both the one used in the CBM-170 and this new higher-end tweeter. If you e-mail him or David they should give you more info on the speaker if you're interested.

Thanks BradJudy,
I had thought I had read that somewhere before. David did tell me a couple of weeks ago that it would be atleast a few more weeks until they had all the parts for production.
I will definitely get one.....and thought about asking for a picture, just haven't gotten around to it and afraid it will make me want one even more!

I didn't know that. Do you know what tweeters are used in each Ascend Acoustic speaker (CBM-170 and CMT-340)?
Whatever the case...they sound GREAT!

Cane1992: I don't remember the model numbers, but it isn't hard to figure it out if you look at the online listings on Audax's site.

Hi Guys!
Regarding the new tweeter used in our forthcoming (very soon!) CMT-340c center channel. This new tweeter has the same dome as the tweeter used in the CBM-170, however, it uses a different motor assembly and a wide dispersion metal alloy faceplate.
These features provide for lower distortion and wider dispersion than the CBM-170 tweeter while maintaining the same tonal characters... It is a GREAT tweeter.
Please note: This tweeter is not presently available over-the counter from Audax and is not listed in their literature or websites.
Also note: The woofers used in the CMT-340 are not the same as the ones used in the CBM-170. These woofers were, like our CBM-170 woofer, custom designed specifically for this new cabinet. While both woofers are Aerogel and use the same basket, the compliance, impedance, and Fs (as well as many other T/S params) are different.
One last note, our woofers are proprietary and you can not purchase these over the counter nor obtain detailed specs from Audax. These are not "stock" woofers. A diy'er would find it impossible to price out and build a CBM-170 or CMT-340...
Take care!

David,
My mistake on the drivers. I didn't realize you had them specifically tweaked for Ascend.
I also just figured out from poking around Audax's site that they are a Harman company - I didn't realize that.
Keep up the good work.
Brad
