I thought I read somewhere (and can't find it now) about a particular receiver that Dr HSU likes. I saw that the Onkyo TX-SR501 Home Theater Receiver was mentioned with the VT-12 system. Any Idea where a list of good receivers is located that work well with the HSU subs?

I think it was an Onkyo 601. I've also heard many like the Pioneer VSX-D912k with the Ventriloquist setup. Both are pretty cost-effective receivers.

I have the Pioneer VSX-D912k and love the automatic setup. However, the lowest setting for its built-in crossover is 100 Hz. That appears to be the -3 dB point, and rolloff appears to start around 200 Hz. I'm not sure this is the right receiver to match the Hsu subs. I've currently got the receiver front speakers set to Large and the sub set to Plus.

I have the Onkyo 600, and it crosses over at 120/100/80. The 601 is improved. It has multiroom/multisource.

I prefer 80 Hz for a crossover because it is what THX uses, and is low enough to be very non directional, and it gives enough bass to the other speakers so they still sound full.

Idealy I would cross my center at 80 my mains at 60 and my surrounds at 100. That takes a more expensive reciever though.

BTW how does one get to be an "opinionated member"? :)

I am trying to get together a good list of recommended speakers and a receiver for a friend that is upgrading from a Sony Home Theater in-a-box system. I am thinking VT-12 with stf-2 or 3. He is unhappy with his current setup and was looking into Bose (lifestyle systems)
I actually was looking at Bose at first myself months ago, with the name being something I was familiar with and they were costly - so they must be good right? Well I'm glad I didn't.
I got a Pioneer Elite VSX-43-TX and B&W 604s3 front and 601s3 rear speakers and I am borrowing an old 200W Audiosource 15" Sub from my neighbor until I can get a Hsu.
I had the occasion to visit a Bose factory store this weekend and they had the Fellowship of the Ring there so I had the sales guy put their best systems to the test. Needless to say it was horrible sounding. the Bass was barely felt and to even get some decent bass, the volume had to be cranked up so much, the upper frequencies sounded harsh and shrill. I am so glad I didn't get one of their systems.

I changed my user text in my profile to say "opinionated member" so people would not get so uppity when I state my opinions. ;)

I had a boss once who told me I was "opinionated." I told him, "No, a person is 'opinionated" when he is UNDULY attached to his own opinions." Sent him off jibbering to himself.
