I asked hsu about this and they said when their current stock is depleted they might get some in the new finish.

At some point we will have MBM-12 available in the same finishes as our current VTF subwoofers (ie. Satin Black, Real Wood Veneer Maple/Rosenut/Espresso/Walnut). Not sure when though, maybe sometime early next year.
Sincerely,

Hi Pete:
I saw somone mention that the Turbo has been discontinued. Can you tell us one way or the other?
TIA

Hi Arthur,
Most likely that will be the case. Performance-wise, the turbo is a great alternative to plugging a port. The problem is one of stocking new finishes, and aesthetics. It would be difficult to stock the turbo in all the new finishes that we have, and most people who go for the new finishes are concerned about the aesthetics. Hence we have to move in a different direction.

Speaking of finishes, is there a better representation somewhere of the selection other than the relatively small product shots? Specifically, I'd like to know how dark 'walnut' is.. and espresso just looks black to me. Any swatch shots or something we could see in very neutral light?

jephdood, I've attached some higher res pics of Walnut in this post.
The espresso is a dark brown finish (almost like a dark chocolate). With light, you can see the brownish color and grain lines, but with very dim light it does look closer to black.
The walnut is a much lighter brown color.

Hey, that helps a lot. Thanks Pete. Can you post the same for espresso? Is espresso a lacquer finish.. like piano black, only brown? Or is it simply a darker stained wood veneer finish?

My pleasure to help jephdood!
The espresso is definitely not glossy. It is a dark stained wood veneer. That said, one can apply wax to the sub and then buff it out if they want a glossier type of look, but this is done at one's own risk because some of the stain can come off in the process too.
Attached to this post is a higher res pic of espresso. It is still hard to see the details though in a picture.

Hehe, thanks for the props on the ULS and new finish options, guys!
Sadly the pictures cannot come close to showing the nice finish quality on the new speakers/subs. Maybe some of our customers will end up posting pics over here which will do a better job at showing off the finishes!

I agree about the pics pete, a guy on audioholics posted pics of his rosewood ULS that was damaged in shipping. Damage aside, the finish on that sub was AMAZING.

john, I agree that the rosenut finish is really nice.
As an aside, we are definitely professionals when it comes to taking pictures. :D

Hopefully the new finishes come soon. I would love to have a pair of rosenut MBM-12s and a pair of rosenut ULS-15s at the fromt of my room.
