I'm looking at purchasing a STF-3 and to get past the WAF I may need to cover the sub with some type of enclosure.

I would need to make it look like an end table.
My thought is to remove the spikes and place it in an enclosure similar to the one I sketched in the image below.

Would something like this effect the performance of the sub?

I think it would need to be a very tight fit to keep the enclosure from vibrating.

Yes, vibrations are going to be your biggest problem. I would leave a little clearance all around the sub, and put 4 rubber feet on the bottom of the sub. You could leave the brass feet on, and drill 4 holes for the feet to sit in. You could then line the holes w/ neoprene (or something like it) and the feet would fit right in, and would not vibrate.

Let us know how it turns out - with pics.

Your wife might prefer furniture grade veneered plywood, to the marine grade you call out. :)

Don't worry about building an enclosure. My wife didn't like the way my VTF-2 looked when it arrived. Then she heard it...

Problem solved.

Sounds like a nice project!

I haven't built such a cabinet, but I know subwoofers and think felt, earthquake putty, museum wax, and/or tiny rubber feet should be used to avoid vibrations between the walls of the subwoofer and the wooden enclosure. These should be put wherever the subwoofer might touch any surface.

Please send us pictures of it when it is done (and in various stages of development, please) :)
