I am fairly new at this home audio thing, and purchased an STF-2 to go with my onkyo 606. I am having a relatively difficult time setting up the levels, but think that about 9:30 and about -4db is going to be ok. But, sometimes there seems to be a lag on the low frequency sounds. In other words, they seem to reverberate or remain audible longer than they should. Is this a product of placement? levels? or simply the track of what I am hearing.

Second, and more troublesome. I have a 2.5 year old son, who as soon as I unpacked the sub proceeded to put a matchbox car in the rear port which ended up taking a turn and contacting the woofer itself. Could this cause damage. I don't think he has repeated, but would any negative acoustic effect occur if I place some sort of screen over the rear port?

Hi Mike,

Generally I recommend setting the volume knob on the STF sub at about 11 o'clock, and then adjusting the subwoofer channel level on the receiver slightly upwards to your tastes.

Are you using the subwoofer on a hardwood or tile flooring surface? What track are you hearing reverberation on?

I would think that just having the toy car go into the port and bump against the woofer magnet shouldn't have caused damage. Make sure you don't hear any obvious distorted sounds coming from the woofer.

Sincerely,
