Hi everyone. I love this forum and have learned so much over the past few months though out my navigation.

Anyway, after a few months of research I have decided in the near future to purchase the Ventriloquist VT-12 six channel system with the stf-2 sub.

I have read many post on recommendations for the Onkyo TX-SR501 receiver. I am trying to decide between the Onkyo TX-SR501, Onkyo TX-SR601 or the Onkyo TX-SR701 models.

My goal is to purchase a reasonably priced system that sounds clear and has bass you can feel that is needed to get the most of the HT experience. High quality sound is my desire not so much as features from a receiver.

With that in mind the Onkyo TX-SR501 and the HSU package are a great match, my question is. Will the purchase of the Onkyo TX-SR601 or the Onkyo TX-SR701 improve the sound output so much so, to justify the cost of the other upscale Onkyo models?

I thank everyone for your time.

If the 501 is good enough for Dr Hsu I'd say it should satisfy you as well. The other models however may offer options that you would enjoy.
If you have the $$$ I'd say get the 701.

601 upgrades to multi room/source capability, component video switching, and more power. Basically it has more features and power, but would sound no better than the 501. The 701 adds a phono input more power still, and pre-amp outputs.

Decide on features, you need, then chose the reciever. The sound and quality will be about the same. I have the 600 and love it (the 601 added a couple of watts and the multi room/source feature). Or course part of why I love it is that I bought it direct from Onkyo as a B stock for $320 including shipping. Full factory warrenty. Keep an eye on the Onkyo site, they occasionally have spectacular deals.
