Oh man, that Rosenut finish is a huge improvement in looks!!

I'd pay the $150 upgrade if offered for my VTF-HO in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the kind words guys!

I really must also reiterate that the finishes do look much nicer in person. In the pictures they almost look a little hazy, but not like that in reality!

By the way, do any of you guys have any tips on how to take good quality pictures with a digital camera that really nicely shows off the finishes?

do the VTF and STF series come with extra rubber feet? or do most of them come with spikes?

wow i had a huge post typed up and lost all of it because the forum logged me out.. DAMN!

anyways

theres lots of things going on here
- youre attaching them in the post, so youre compressing the jpg even MORE and making the finish become incredibly blocky and filled with artifacts... try hosting it on the hsu server and put it on the forum, should look better
- you may be using a point in shoot, which means youre never going to get the detail and options of a DSLR
- if youre using a DSLR, use the custom white balance option, if you want to know how look at the manual of the dslr
- i assume youre taking these pics of the sub outside? taking pics outside can result in some exposure problems, a setup like this would be better:
http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/1618/attachmentbu5.jpg (this isnt mine)

a cheap way of doing that is just get some white butcher paper, go from ceiling to floor, and then use lamps and drape white cloth in front of them to disperse light over the shooting area

or you could just get a professional photographer to take photos of your whole product lineup and pay him in subs :D

gotcha, those are some great tips, thank you so much! You are correct, they were taken outside. Also, the ones on the product pages definitely will be heavily compressed. I'll have to look into what type of camera we were using.

I've lost a few posts in the past by getting logged out too :( Now I have learned my lesson and always do a <Ctrl> C and copy all my text before submitting long posts!

very nice! my eyes on the walnut :)

Good choice, because walnuts are quite good for the health with their good nutritional properties :D

Mike, the VTF-2 MK3 and all lower cost models only come with plastic spiked feet. The VTF-3 MK3 and VTF-3 HO come with rubber feet. In the future, the ULS-15 will come with only rubber feet, although for now it comes with brass feet.

Hi Pete,

The new fimishes are indeed very beautiful! This is a nice step up for the VTF line.

I've been a professional photographer for 25 years. I don't specialize in product photography but I was able to get some stunning images of my rosewood Rocket speakers shooting indoors using windows as the light source (but NOT direct sun). As mentioned, tweaking the white balance can help get the colors clean and accurate. Your shots have a cold blue cast in places that comes from reflected blue light outdors, and the hazy look is glare from reflected light that may be reduced from trying slight changes in shooting angle and will be affected by the surrounding objects and their reflectance. Wish I lived close, I would be happy to come by and give it a try :) .

Cheers,
Ross

I plan on purchasing the VTF 2.3 or 3.3 next year at some point. I was glad to see some these pics of the new finishes but I'm a little puzzled. I can't really see a difference between what should be the Walnut and Rosenut. Is the Walnut pictures #4,5, while Rosenut is #6,7 in the series? In actuallity which one is darker?

If we could also maybe get a better picture of the Espresso too, I was really excited when I heard about it, all of my furniture is a darker wood but the photo makes it look black. So is the Espresso black or is a really dark brown?

Thanks in advance
JR

Thanks Ross, finally we have multiple luxury finishes, and about time too!

Excellent comments too on the reflected light. Very cool to hear that you are a professional photographer. The only consolation we can take from our pictures is that expectations will be low, and when people actually get the unit it will look a lot better than they thought it would based on the picture :D

JR, there is a noticeable difference in person between the Walnut and Rosenut. The Rosenut is darker and more red in color, while the Walnut is less dark and more orange/brown in color.

As for the espresso, apologies for the quality of that. The espresso is definitely a dark brown (almost dark chocolate) type of finish. I've attached a photo of the ULS-15 that does a little better job of showing off the finish.

Awesome! That is exactly what I was looking for in the Espresso. Thanks for the info!
