New to the forum and home theater. Just received my VT-12 and VTF-3 MK II. I have it hooked up to an Onkyo 701. At first I was skeptical that the 12's would sound good but at $199 couldn't pass up that deal. I settled for the VTF-3 in the piano finish because I couldn't wait till April to complete my home theater. I was able to get in before the price increased:D I hooked everything up and was amazed at the sound quality of the VT-12 and the VTF-3. The test cd literally shook my walls. Once I had everything set up I watched Saving Private Ryan and could not believe the sound quality. I'm glad I stumbled on to HSU.

kkobi,
I own the older VTF-3, it is a wonderful performer, and could not be beat in my mind for under $1K.
Now, with the lower price, more powerful amd, and new design from the good Dr., it is even a better value.

Curtis... Good to see you...
The VTF-3 Mark II's are a great find and a buy... The next shootout should be a good one...
Can you provide a link so everyone here can easily follow how the VTF-3 Mark II does in a face off against Adire and Rocket ?

Kkobi... If you want another treat, try Open Range. It is a pretty good western, and the gunfights will test any subwoofer not only for power, but for quickness...

Open Range is a thumbs up from me! The "scatter" gun has a nice hit.
Craig...you can not link?

Thanks cschang I will look for that title. BTW, I found a set of five omnimounts on buy.com that worked really well in mounting my 12's. I know I got a system that's way too much for me but how do you guys listen to your VTF-3 open or closed(ported?) and at what crossover setting?

Forgot to mention I use my system mainly for home theater and about 30% of the time for music.

Since my room is not that big, I do not need the extra output that the 25hz provides. So I keep it in 20hz tune...eventhough there is rarely any material that low.

I think the 20Hz setting is good for most movies, and I'm sure I'll hear stuff I never did, both music and home theater. But I came across this thread at Home Theater Forum that shows there are a lot of movies with low freq effects down to 5Hz!!!! I suppose there will be more and more of them as time goes on, too. Joe

True...if you seek out low bass you will find it, but the majority of films...even just action films do not have stuff that low. You won't even feel stuff below 20hz much in the movie theaters either. Alot of this stuff is mixed on M&K subs, and they can't get that low either, so it makes me wonder why that info is there.
