Greetings forum members, I'm new to home theater and forums so I ask you to take that into consideration concerning my questions; that being said I'd like to gleen the knowledge of all members on sub choices; my bedroom is 12.5w x12L x8.5H plaster and lath walls 2 brick exterior walls 2 one doorway leading to the hall. I like the flexibility of the vtf series specifically the vtf1 and vtf2-mk3 good for my smaller room size I presume, I will use the sub for music and movies and would like to "feel" the bass when I choose to for 5.1 ht but would like to switch the bass for music as well. Also can turbos be used on either sub? And or are turbos even going to continue to be offered for subs with ports? I notice on the Hsu website there's only 1 and it's a clearance item. Buy the way, what does the "mk" in vtf2-mk3 stand for? My apologies for the long thread obviously I'm new to this ht thing and find myself becoming obsessed. Any and all responses would be appreciated, Thanks, Jerry.

I have both the VTF-1 and VTF-2 MK3. I feel that the VTF-1 is fully sufficient for your room. It really is a great little sub. The turbos do not work with these subs since the distance from the top of the sub to the ports is different than the VTF-3. Some have made it fit with the VTF-2 MK3, but it is not really the best way to go. The Mk stands for Mark (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_(designation)) and refers to the sequence of the sub as it changed - kind of like the Lincoln Continental Mark II, Mark III, etc.

You can go with the VTF-1 as mojave said and have a great experience.

If you like bass a lot and you want very strong output you can go with the VTF-2 MK3 or even bigger...HEHEH

thank you so much for your replies guys, it really helps to hear (no pun intended) from people who actually have the equipment one needs an opinion(s) on. i like cacihome's thinkin on goin even bigger than the vtf-2mk3 heheh that was my thoughts on the vtf2-mk3 in the 1st place, but i'm relieved to hear you guys are in agreement on the vft-1 being adequate for me. don't really need to spend the extra coin not to mention the extra size of the vtf-2mk3 if it isn't necessary.fitting it in the corner next to the salamander triple 20 and the wall so space is at a premium. also thks for the answer on the mk designation mojave thought it had something to do with the performance directly. thks jer.

say mojave, maybe you can answer a nagging question for me; one thing that concerns me about the downward firing of the sub is that i have a floating laminate floor i just installed and don't want to use a "throw" rug under the sub where its goin, isn't practical, i understand i can put rubber under the spiked feet but was told that at high volumes i could have some "clipping" have you or any members had any experience with floors other than carpet as to how these downward firing subs handle that and if so whats your recommendation on how to place the sub on the laminate floor rubber, coasters like for furniture? thks jer.

Check out the subdude at sweetwater.com. I use one for each of my MBMs on Hardwood floor concrete slab foundation. For me it made the bass tighter and removed a tactile sound.

thks for the advise thsmith, i read in the forum that sasha recommends using rubber feet from home depot on/instead of the spikes will try that 1st a little easier on the wallet, but i checked the website you recommended and placed it in my favs. for potential future reference.

Greenhorn,

Rubber feet under the spikes is so you don't mark up the floor. The throw rug or subdude is to improve the sound quality when downfiring into hardwood floors. The throw rug and subdude just happen to do double duty as they also protect the floor from the spike feet.

Ken

PS. I have a VTF-2 MK3 in a 14x18x8 room and I highly recommend it to anyone who really wants to feel the bass. I can only imagine what the guys with multiple VTF-3's must be feeling.

i was afraid of that, the sound quality is affected by firing without the throw rug may have to compromise and find one small enough to look unobtrusive underneath the small footprint of the sub. also you say the vtf-2mk3 is a good choice for my room to really feel the bass? I know you can never have enough power arg,arg others on the forum have said the vtf-1 should be fine (a little confused) choices, choices thks, jer.

Hi Jerry,

Didn't mean to confuse you with the comment about the VTF-2 MK3. I had missed your room dimensions from your first post and I agree with the others that the VTF-1 would be fine for your room size.

Bass is much like horsepower, is there ever enough?

I've heard of some folks finding a "carpet sample" for under their sub in the size and color that fits their room or to match the sub.

say kmitchell, thks for the heads up about carpet samples been rackin my brains tryin to find a small throw rug on the internet for under the sub since its in the corner, that should work. now i just have to decide between the svs pb10-nsd or the vtf-1 they're neck in neck may have to buy 'em both and audition each one. thks, jer.
