Took me over a month of researching to finally decide on a sub. Had it narrowed down to the VTF-2, VTF-3, and the Outlaw equivalents. The current sale on the VTF-3 made it a much easier decision. I have a fairly large room, about 4500cu. The listening area is only about 1800cu but the area behind it is entirely open.
After a mishap with FedEx which almost ruined a day off from work I finally took delivery of a the VTF-3 MK3 on friday. I have to say the sub is packed extremely well. The box could probably take a tumble down a flight of stairs ;) I unboxed my new toy and my first impression was it's huge! then I just admired its looks. It's got a beautiful satin finish which I really like. The fit and finish in my opinion is superb, really well put together. So I drag it into the corner and put it on top of a great gramma and hooked it up.
I wanted to take it easy so I haven't really put it through any real tests. Before redoing Audyssey I watched some UP and Dark Knight at about -20db below reference. Wasn't the best material to test it with but I got an idea on how it sounds. I had enough time yesterday to run Audyssey but didn't get a chance to test it with any real material. Only watched some tv.
Audyssey came back with a distance of 11.4ft, which is pretty spot on. Channel lvl came out to +1.5db with the sub volume set exactly at the 9o'clock mark.
A couple of questions.
Does the sub need to go through a break-in period? if yes, what's the best method for doing that?
I know the phase questions has been asked many times, I just want to know if it's ok to switch the phase while the sub is on with a source playing?
Would a damp microfiber towel be ok to use on the surface of the sub?
