I have had the VT-12 Ventriloquist and STF-3 for a few years now. They have been great. I was running a Pioneer VSX-5000 and have recently upgraded my reciever to the Onkyo-TX sr606. For some reason the Onkyo shuts off durring loud explosions when I'm watching movies. Onkyo rep said this was a built in safety feature. My Pioneer never did this. Is there anything I can adjust so it won't cut off ? I tried setting the crossover frequency to different levels, disconecting the sub. It doesn't happen at lower volume levels (38 or below). Also with my VT-12 I wanted to upgrade to 7.1. Will I need to purchase 2 extra satalites (VT-254's) or will the one VT-251 and an additional VT-254 be O.K. ?

Hi Jim,

In the Onkyo 606 manual, it does say that on the North American version of the receiver, the receiver can shut down at higher volume levels if the speaker impedance dips below 6 ohms. So that could the issue. Also, as an extra precaution, check all of your speaker wires to make sure that you don't have any stray leads or shorts.

To make it a 7.1 system, all one would need to do is to add one extra VT-254 speaker.

Sincerely,
