Maple comes in so many variations, you'll never make everyone happy. Having said that, I would prefer honey maple. But I was happy to buy a matte black one. Joe

True. Then I would say that I would like to see a lighter colored finish for the subs.

We'll see what we can do. Its safe to say maple is the runnaway winner.

Curtis... you cannot win these on line polls... your dream match-up in subs did not happen...

now you are the only one who did not want maple...

my friend.. just check with me first....

Listening to Fourplay on the K-horn/VTF-3's now.... good stuff !

Didn't he have Rosewood originally ? Or do I need a drink ?

Hey...I do want maple! The response you quoted was because of the many shades of maple.

craigsub
March 26th, 2004, 4:55 PM
Does that mean I get the drink then ?...

Curtis... the guy from AVS on the STF-3 or the Titanic III now has thrown a $99 Dayton into the mix... how do you reason with that ?

cschang

hehehe...I'm going out to dinner...you can reason with him.

Would you prefer a Rosewood or Maple wood finish subwoofer?

I have the -3R, which is rosewood. It's pretty, but tends to stand out. I would have preferred an early American maple.

Did they have subwoofers back then ?

How about a ready-to-finish sub in a light wood that could be stained to match your decor - Increased WAF?

How about a line of furniture with built in subs? "The HSU 350 watt Sofa"

But Ethan Allen seems to be around still.

And has over 1000 stores... guess the public image as a Revolutionary War hero is paying off...

Neither, since I'm partial to cherry. But if someone had a gun to my head and I was forced to pick between maple and rosewood, my choice would be maple.

Sasha-- I was just curious to know if there was any further discussion amongst the HSU crew regarding the possibility of introducing a maple finish on the subs.

For me, a maple-finished sub would complement the finish of my other speakers and would still be visually subtle enough that it wouldn't compete as a focal point with furniture and other decorative pieces in the room.

Thanks.

In order to get the maple tone just right, HSU should but up a picture of every single piece of maple that they use to form their subwoofers. From this, you can choose the specific pieces allowing you to have just the specific color tones and grain patterns that would most please you.

I don't think that this is an unreasonable request.

kidding.
would be cool though.

I voted Maple, btw. A lighter and consistent coloration would be my preference. Perhaps crosscut to ensure grain consistency. But I'm not picky. ;)

It doesn't affect me, since I already have the rosewood model, but THE definitive maple is Ethan Allen.

I really dig the idea of an unfinished piece. Then we could stain it any color we wanted.

The good news is that because of feedback like yours on this forum, we have ordered some maple finished VTF subwoofers! We should have them for sale in a month or so.

I'll have more details soon!

Good Lord that maple is SUPER UGLY! I certianly don't mean to offend anyone, but that thing looks like a old laundry hamper! Really! Too each his own, my Rosewood arrives in 2 days, if the maple was the only option I would have even paid more for the Piano balck. Just my 2c, I'd rather see an Oak for a lighter finish.

I do not think that picture does it justice. It is a very clean and handsome looking design. I am also unsure about the status of the maple units. You guys will be the first to find out though!

Is the maple finish a wooden veneer, or is it printed vinyl? Hard to tell from the pic, but being priced the same as the black vinyl suggests the latter. Are there any larger pictures?

If it were a honey maple, i.e., like Ethan Allen, it would be great. As it is, I just bought a second rosewood, although it is a bit too red for the decor.

I have seen both the rosewood and the maple finishes.

Sorry Curtis, the rosewood is much better looking.

I have tested and enjoyed a Rosewood VTF-3 MKII sub for a couple of months. Realizing that I currently have 9 subwoofers in the HT space, varying from a pair of 1 cubic foot 1X12" sealed subs to a pair of monster 10 cubic foot ported subs, and that number changes constantly, I have moved the VTF to it's permanent home.

I installed it into a system of Onix Rocket RS250 MKIIs in the corners and an Onix Ref 100 center, powered by a Denon 3806. Source is driven by a Denon 1920 uni-player and monitored by a 50" NEC High Def Plasma.

Being that the satellites are Rosewood with PGB caps, the VTF in Rosewood was the natural hands-down choice in the client's opinion...and my own opinion as well.

As Peter said above regarding the maple sub and judging it by a lo-rez photo, the same is more than true of the Rosewood VTF. No way do you appreciate the absolute beauty of the sub until you remove the cotton sock.

It's a knockout in any room with sky-high WAF. The new owners agree and they use every opportunity to show off the system to friends, relatives and neighbors.

Black is a no-no to every significant other who is into decor, whereas real woods are viewed more as a neutral addition to most rooms...especially the depth and relative rarity of Rosewood, which is mostly viewed as a much more expensive piece and gets my vote by a wide margin.

BTW, the new owners of the Rosewood VTF-3 MKII asked me to pass on to this Forum that they are absolutely thrilled with it's looks and performance :)

ROSEWOOD!!!

The rosewood VTF-3 with the piano black ends is simply beautiful!

Granted, if you guys were to bring back the piano black finish on the VTF-3HO.....

WOW, you obviously haven't seen the HSU subs from a couple years ago. The VTF3 Mk2 was available with gloss rosewood sides and piano black top and bottom. They were BEAUTIFUL!

They also had a full piano black version.

I have a rosewood VTF3MK2, and I'm very happy with it. The rosewood finish goes with the rosewood on my stereo mains. Now I'm in the market for a center and rear channels. The HB-1 and HC-1 look good to me, but not in black or maple. No rosewood finish = no sale.

Yeah guys, how about some Rosewood HB-1s (I'd probably run these will the grilles off if they looked nice)

Its tied now 44:44...

Is this thread still going? We all know Rosewood is the best looking sub out there.

Why is there even a question? (I am being sacastic, just in case you could not tell)

I'm a lurker, but I had to register to ask you to begin producing a rosewood sub (preferably with piano black end caps). The signficant other is insistent that whatever home theater pieces I choose fit in with the home decor and neither the black nor the maple will do.

Craigsub's thread over on AVS has me sold on HSU. Please add rosewood as a finish option so that I can add your product to my setup.
