Please help me choose between the VTF-1 and the VTF-2 MK 3.
My room is 2700 cubic feet, so apparently either has enough power.
(The listed specs are VTF-1 for 3000 cu. ft., and VTF-2 MK 3 for 4500 cu. ft.)
But, the 18 Hz Frequency Response Bass extension +/- 1 dB (maximum extension mode) specification for the VTF-2 makes me wonder if I would prefer it over the VTF-1 listed as 25 Hz. However, the additional weight of the VTF-2 (80 lb. vs. 56 lb.) is a bit scary for trying to move it around :-o
I will use it for both music and home theater.
In case it is relevant, the sub will be used in a 5.1 or 7.1 channel setup driven by a Pioneer Elite VSX-32 receiver, which has the MCACC "optimum sound tuning" function (you put the microphone in the listening position, and the receiver generates sounds through each speaker and measures them with the microphone.) Should I let this receiver handle the crossover duties for the sub?
Please don't hesitate to correct me if need be, or to ask me for additional info. THANKS!

Hi Teffy,
Does your room open to any other areas of the house, and if so, what are those dimensions (HxWxD)?
My feeling is that if your budget is flexible enough and you can accomodate a large enclosure, then VTF-2 MK3 is great. If your budget is already very tight close to the $400 price point, and you need a relatively compact enclosure, then VTF-1 is great.
Yes, you should use the receiver for all the bass management features (including crossover, distance, and channel level settings for the speakers and subwoofer).
Sincerely,
Sputter

For this sub or any other heavy sub use furniture sliders. They are slim hard plastic disks with dense foam on one side. Much easier to move the sub(s) around. Most Hardward stores will sell them for a few bucks. (they come in different diameters)

Hi Pete_Hsu!
You asked, "Does your room open to any other areas of the house, and if so, what are those dimensions (HxWxD)?"
The room connects to two hallways without doors - I don't know what volume should be added to the total. The hallways? kitchen? dining room? stairs? A floorplan is attached. The ceiling height is 7' 8" throughout.
Sputter - thanks for the tip on the sliders!

Would the VTF-3 be overkill for my situation?

Hi Teffy,
Thank you for the great diagram!
Will you be able to place the subwoofer in the back right corner of the room (as viewed from the main listening position, ie. upper right hand corner of the diagram)?
The subwoofer will have to fill the entire volume of space including all the open areas. If you can accomodate a large enclosure, then VTF-3 MK3 is highly recommended!
Sincerely,
Teffy

Is it OK to use the subwoofer as a table for a lamp, etc.?
I just ordered a VTF-3 MK 3 and I am excited to hear it as part of my home theater/music system!

Great!
It was definately a better choice to go with the biggest sub you can accomodate in there!
