Hello, i'm a novice sub user and i'm considering getting the VTF-2 for my set up...my listening room measures 11x12x8 ft...Would the VTF-2 with it's 150 amp be too much power for a room this size? i know you can just turn the volume on the sub down but would the sub still perform well at low volumes?
Thank you

foxtrot,

I think you will be very happy with a VTF-2. Yes, the volume knob can be turned down and it will not effect the sub. Also remember, most receivers can control the sub level as well.

I have a VTF-3 in a 14x18x9 foot room, the volume knob on the sub is turned less than a quarter of the way, and also turned down a bit at the receiver, and I have all the low end I need.

The VTF-2 will perform very well with the volume turned down, and the VTF-2 is the smallest sub we offer right now.

Although 11x12 seems very small, the actual size of the space depends on if there are unclosable room openings and the size of adjacent rooms, which have a lot to do with the sound because the bass sound waves are longer than higher pitched waves. Subwoofer sound waves are often 30-50 feet long, and when the door is open they bouce around outside and may not come back with as much intensity.

would a TN1220HO be too much for 11 x 15 x 8 foot room? I want maximum extension to below 20Hz. Or is that impossible in such a small room? For example, I have heard that larger movie theatres 'support' low bass better than smaller theatres. Is this true? Do small living rooms have trouble with subs that can play at such low frequencies as the 1220? Sasha? Dr. Hsu?

You can hear some of the deeper bass even in headphones, so I don't give much credit to the theories that small rooms make it hard to hear ultra deep bass. Yes, the sound waves can be 40 feet long, but you can still hear them in a 10 ft room, from my experience.

So, the TN series would work fine in a small room where sound quality was paramount and ultra deep air shaking bass was wanted. You can always turn down the bass, so the bigger subs will work in the smaller rooms. The downside is they may be quite large in a smaller room.

P.S. Sorry for the delay in responding.
