I noticed my sub has developed a strange noise. When turned on, sitting ideal (my processor off)......it sounds like a "soft test tone/soft rumble" coming through the sub. When I disconnect the input cable coming from the processor (which is turned off), the sound goes away. The sound also goes away when I switch the sub off.
Any ideas on how to fix this???
Thank you,
Jon

Sounds like it may be a 60Hz ground loop problem.
I haven't read the whole article - but this may help: http://www.audioholics.com/tweaks/connecting-your-system/ground-loops-eliminating-system-hum-and-buzz
I know I've reduced or eliminated them before by just plugging and unplugging the power cords of my equipment in different orders....

Go here to solve the problem: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=180-075&vReviewShow=1&vReviewRand=8001739. This device solved the problem for me too!

Jon, have you tried using a different rca cable to see if that has any effect?

Thank you all.
Kind of strange....the problem really didn't start until I sold off my McIntosh amp and switched to a Parasound amp. I'm using the same Monster, RCA cord that I always have. Same processor too.....
I'll have to purchase one of the isolators and try it.
Pete....will this "grounding sound/noise" damage my sub in the meantime???

Probably not Jon, although it wouldn't hurt to send off an email to techsupport just to get verification of that.
