ok i list to a lot of music and the wacth some movies.i have a marantz av9000 and it crossover is preset to 85 the front speakers are linn keilidh they go down to 50Hz and the sub is a vtf-2.

Probably not. Crossovers are not brick walls, your mains will still play down to the 40s with a crossover set at 85Hz.
All "small" and "sub = yes" is the best arrangement in 99% of all cases.

Sorny is right. From 40 to 80 Hz, the mains will be down 6 dB, 12 db, 24 db, or 36 db depending on the system's internal high pass crossover slope. That is when the crossover is set to 80 Hz. Our crossovers are 24 dB per octave.
Using a high crossover helps the system sound better though. Your main speakers don't try to produce as much bass, and neither do their amplifiers. The subwoofer and the speakers just play the sounds they do best.
