i have narrowed my decision for a sub to the vtf-3 or Outlaw audio's LFM1..i would appreciated any advice as i think they seem pretty close..i have another outlaw product (icbm bass management) which i'm very happy with

I think it is a win no matter what you choose.

But my thinking is this:
Since Hsu Research helped with the design of the LFM-1, would they price the STF-3 $20 higher if they did not think it offered more? Just a thought.

I have to admit though, I like the looks of the LFM-1 more than the STF-3.

i agree..the lfm1 looks nicer....love the smoked plexiglass look...i think the hsu in piano black is very sweet but its $850..the plain black one is pretty unattractive...

hey cschang..is the black matte vtf3 the same finsih as the stf3?..i may be confusing the two...i guess only the vtf3 has finish choices...doesnt dr hsu recommend 3" space around unit..so ports arent tpp close to wall..i ask because isnt the outlaw's ports closer to the floor than 3 "

yup...matte black on the STF and VTF is the same.....and I think it is better looking than it sounds. I am hoping for a light wood finish such as maple one of these days...vinyl or wood veneer....would not make much of a difference to me.

Yes...3" of clearance for the ports is what they recommend.

Obstructing ports can interfere with their tuning frequency and cause port noise. And yes, we recommend 3 inches.

While its true the LFM-1 is a fine subwoofer, we wouldn't design our own subwoofer to be inferior performance wise. As far as looks go, that is your call.

I prefer the matt black as it is a little easier to hide than the gloss black would be.

sasha,

if you recommend 3" & helped design the lfm-1...arent the bottom facing ports closer to the floor than 3"?
