I have some questions about the best way to integrate my old stereo speakers into a HT system. Here’s the plan:

I have two ESS Heil Towers from 1974, refurbished and still sounding great. They are 4 ohm speakers. I will be using a newly acquired ESS LD6C (6 ohm) as the center channel, since it also has a Great Heil tweeter and will best match the front setup. For the rear surrounds, I want to use 2 HIW-1 in-wall speakers (WAF). For the sub I will be buying the VTF-2 MK3 to complete a 5.1 system (no room for 7.1). I plan on the Onkyo TX-NR808 or TX-NR809 (TV will be 3-D) for the receiver.

Knowing that the Towers will draw a lot of power, I plan on using a power amp (NAD) that has been powering them for the past ten years. That should leave the center channel and the HIW-1’s running off the power from the Onkyo.

My questions::confused:

Will this work as I think it will, or am I missing something?
Will the center channel and the HIW-1’s draw power about equally since they are all 6 ohm (nominal impedance)?
Is there a better way to do this, still using the Heils across the front? I have attached a pdf of my room that this is all going in. Thanks in advance for any responses and suggestions.

Hi Starnek,

Your proposal looks good, and proposed placement positions for front left/right/center, rear left/right, and subwoofer all look good too! I think that everything should work quite well together.

Great diagram by the way!

Thanks Pete. I appreciate your response. The diagram was done up on Floorplanner.com, great site for those that want to work out a floor plan for a room (and it's free).

One more question, would the sub be better in the corner between the desk and fireplace? The desk could be shifted to allow more room for the sub. I put it between the chair and couch since it could be used as an end table there.
