I have a buzz in my non-Hsu subwoofer. It is fairly loud (it has gotten louder over the past few days) and it doesn't matter if it is connected to the receiver. It buzzes when I turn it on. The volume and other controls/switches have no effect on it. I tried plugging it into a non-grounded outlet in another room and it still buzzes. It is not a low-pitched hum but more of a louder midrange buzz. Do you think this is a sub amp problem? Anyway, after reading so much good stuff about Hsu subs, I decided to replace my old one (an Onix Rocket) with an STF-2 but I am hoping it isn't some wiring problem that is causing the buzz. Any ideas?

This comes from direct from HSU web site:
Why is there is a humming or buzzing noise coming from my subwoofer?http://www.hsuresearch.com/Templates/icons/top.gif (http://www.hsuresearch.com/faq.html#top)
This is a common question and can usually be solved at home. There are several possible causes:
1) You have a ground loop problem. Try using a cheater plug that removes the third prong, also called the 'ground'. Do NOT ground the grounding tab on the cheater plug! That would defeat the purpose of the cheater plug for this application.
2) You have an amplifier problem. If the ground cheater plug does not help, disconnect all interconnects from the subwoofer amplifier. If it still hums, call or email the sub manufacturer for technical support.
3) You have a problem with other equipment. If hum goes away when interconnects are disconnected, hum is coming from the rest of your equipment. Add them back one piece at a time. The one that causes the system to hum is the source of the hum.
Monkuboy...also when you get your new STF-2 you're going to need to do a lot of experimenting on placement. I believe the crawling meathod to be the best and quickest way to determine good placement. If it's placed incorrectly you'll be unhappy until you find the subs "happy place". Then just sit back and:D .
Good luck,

Thanks, Scott! I read that section on the buzz/hum you quoted and I think the problem is with my amp. Last night I unplugged all of my other equipment so that it was only the subwoofer connected to the electric outlet with no input and it still buzzes. Not a hum but more of an annoying sound. Anyway, the STF-2 is on the FedEx truck for delivery today so I can't wait!
