VT-12 with old stereo amplifier?
I'm about to receive my vt-12, but I have a couple of questions I would like to ask.
Can I connect them to a 2 chanel amplifier, and if so, in what way. It's an old Denon, and it has remote A + B. The same is to say, I can connect 4 'normal' speakers, in stereo, right?
If I want to go ahead , mount and test them (in some way), while I wait one month or two, till I get a really good receiver, how can I do it?
Another question is related to knowing if there's any incompatibility to use them here in Portugal (Europe), where the voltage and frequency is different. Are this speakers made for the US reveivers/market only, or is this irelevant and they work anyway?
Thanks in advance for any answer.

Any ideas?

In my opinion, I do not think it will work properly. It is meant to be used with a 5 or 6 channel receiver/amp, discrete channels.
The front L/R pair may work OK with them playing through the center channel...and the center channel playing the frequencies the L/R satellites can not handle.
Should be no issue using them in Europe.

Yes. That's exactly what I wanted to do.
However, could I do any harm if I do the same to the back L/R satellites, using the other two output (B) speakers.
I know I wouldn't have any surround efect. That's not the point. I just want to install all the satellites in theire final places and if possible getting some sound out of them.
At least for a month or two, then I'll buy a real HT receiver.
Can it be done ?

I think that should work.....treat them just like any other speakers.

The small satellites are nice because they can blend visually into the rooms better than big ones. In that sense, it will work fine with a 2 channel system.
At the minimum, you would use the left, right, and center channel. The center houses the woofers for the satellites.
However, could I do any harm if I do the same to the back L/R satellites, using the other two output (B) speakers.
Having the rear channels play exactly what the front channels play isn't really a good idea becuase acoustics can cause some cancellations and problems in the sound.

Its your option to wire them ahead of time for 6.1. Individual wires go to the rear 3 speakers. The front wiring is a bit different, with all three front channels being fed to the center, and then additional wire going to the left and right speakers from the center.

Thanks for such a complete answer, Sasha
As for the wiring, I have it covered! I'll pass all the wires that I'm going to use, with the 6.1 receiver, now. But only going to conect some of them - the fronts, maybe experiment the rear channels (L & R only!) !?...
And you write just what I wanted to hear (read!). I'll connect the front like you said, ventriliquist way (know the drill - been reading this forum, site, and reviews, for a wile, now, so!), and hope it works well.
I will probably end buying the 6.1 receiver sooner than I thought, anyway I think I'm just curious in getting some sound out of them asap, and at the same time have some comparison with my actual sound system vs present amplifier + vt-12 vs future receiver + vt-12.
At this moment I use my hi-fi only for music, and hope to hear lots of it, in my next system, so if I can, I really want to compare all this stages.

Another question:
If I really want to try the A+B option on the amplifier (it's a Denon PMA-280) the impedance will change right? What could happen?
In the back of the amp says: A or B -> 4-16 Ohm, A+B -> 8-16 Ohm
Sorry for so many dumb questions, but I really understand very little of some of this subjects.

Finaly, they're here!
My ventriliquist arrived, :)
Now, let me do some testing before I can connect them to this amp.
Before I do that, I will probably test them in my brothers receiver, Onkyo 700, just to see it in comparison with his system.
I'll keep posting the news.
I don't have much time now.

I didn't have the oportunity to test them as I told you before, with the Onkyo.
But I already connect them to the stereo amplifier.
And let me tell you that they really sound amazing.
I kept the ventriliquist system on, and tested mostly with music...
:)
Didn't connect the rear speakears to the B output yet. But did leave the old speakers there. A 12 years old Mission, just to compare. These Mission are really good speakers (for the price) and served me well for many years, still do!
In this position I can compare well the two systems A (VT-12 - the fronts) and B (Mission - old system). Also was able to try the two together A+B. The amp and speakers never acuse the effort. The room soon filled with very rich sound.
In this mode, I tryed the lion king dvd, once again, in normal setup, no 5.1 surround enhaced choice. No prologic or anything like it. But the Mission are in the back of the seating position, and gave some sort of 'surround' efect, with A+B on. Good.
This is my preliminar review. As u know, soon I'll upgrade my amplifier to a new receiver. In the meanwhile I will hang the (3) rear surround to the wall.
We'll see...

Hi all,
Glad to anounce that I finally upgrade...
I ordered a Yamaha RX-V650 receiver (with YPAO), and a Sanyo Z1 projector.
Let me tell you the VT-12 work great with this system.
However, just realised I have to upgrade my DVD player now!
Didn't have the oportunity to test all the system. The receiver as lots of tuning options, and didn't quit get use to it, yet! Slowly I will get there! ;)
Also the projector is very time consuming, as to setting it up properly, so ...
I'm going to hang the rear speaker now. I hope the wife doesn't get to violent after seeing all the wires anging 7 ft in the wall!
Just temporary, as I have all figure out.
I'll try to bring some more input as I go along.
Even though the Yamaha have the fame of beeing more film friendly in oposition of when playing music, I still think that the Ventriliquist really shine with music.
