View Full Version : HB-1 MK2 Speaker Stand Recommendations

I've seen this thread: Which Speaker Stands Should I Get? (VT-12) (http://forum.hsuresearch.com/showthread.php?t=953). The recommended stands in the thread are too small for the HB-1 MK2's.

Anyone have some recommendations for speaker stands (and/or wall mounts) for the HB-1 MK2 speakers?

Thanks!

Hi nCubed,

In our demo room, we are using speaker stands from Sanus Systems (model EF-28). In general, try to find a speaker stand so that the horn tweeter is at your ear level when sitting down (ie. height of the stand + 11 inches = height of your ear off the ground).

Here is another example of a nice speaker stand for HB-1 MK2: http://forum.hsuresearch.com/showpost.php?p=72365&postcount=13

And if you need to wall mount the HB-1 MK2, I recommend some side clamping wall mounting brackets such as the AM40 referenced in the middle of the FAQ page here: http://www.hsuresearch.com/faq.html

Thanks

Sincerely,

Thanks Pete.

You know, I looked at the FAQ page and missed the bracket there. And I also saw that forum post, but missed the link of "here". Maybe I need new glasses too! :)

Cheers!

Hi Pete,

I'm having dilemma if need to get two pairs for my 5.1 setup. Originally just going a pair for the left/right surrounds only but getting confused with the "ear leveling the speakers"

The main left/right will go on top of tv stand, they are likely to be placed lower than 28 inches (about 23) without speaker stands.

Do I need to match heights for all 4 speakers?
What about center speaker?

Also, I hear direct firing the surrounds on ear level can overpower the mains, what is this all about?

Thanks in advance

Hi AVJunkie,

Placing the front speakers with tweeter height at 23" is just fine. As long as your ear is at tweeter level or above the tweeter level, then the HB-1 MK2 speaker will sound very good. The general rule of thumb is to orient the HB-1 MK2 so that your ear is closer to the tweeter than it is to the woofer.

You do not need to match height for all the speakers. Many people will place the rear speakers a couple feet above ear level (in which case they should flip the speaker upside down) for more ambience and for sound that is less "in your face". Placing the rears at ear level shouldn't overpower the mains provided that the channel levels are adjusted appropriately on the A/V receiver.

With respect to the center channel, that speaker also does not need to be at the same height as the main speakers, but it should be angled towards the listening position if possible.

Thank you so much Pete,

I'm getting a pair of Sanus EF-28, just like in the demo room :D

Pete,

I picked up a set of Sanus EF-28 stands for my HB-1 MK2 speakers. How did you secure the HB-1 MK2 to the stand in your show room? I'm not seeing any threads in the bottom of the speaker which is what the EF-28's seem to want to secure the speaker to the stand.

Hi nCubed,

We used double-sided tape to secure the horn speaker to the stand. The only drawback is that it is virtually impossible to remove that without scratching the bottom of the enclosure.
