Hi all,
I live in an apartment and my hometheater area is approximately 1400 cubic ft. I am upgrading from a Velodyne DPS-12. I want better bass for music and movies than what I am currently getting but because of room size, I am not sure if I should go with the STF-1 or STF-2. I want to hear a definite upgrade from my Velodyne but considering the size of my space, I don't want to fill my apt with boomy bass either. Is the STF-1 an upgrade or am I better served by getting the STF-2? Thanks in advance.

Hi vicolindo,
Does your room open up to any other areas of the home, and if so, what is the volume of those areas? Was there anything in particular about the DPS that you didn't care for?
Thanks
Sincerely,

Hi,
The room does open up to a dining area that is an additional 680 cubic ft. At moderate listening levels, anywhere from -25 to -15 on my AVR, depending on what type of music I'm listening to, I don't hear the musicality from my DPS. I hear no distinction in bass notes. When I watch movies, there is plenty of bass but no realism. Know what i mean? I have read many reviews that state your subs provide these things. Suggestions? Again, thanks for taking the time.

Thank you for the feedback, Vico!
If your budget is quite tight, and if you need a subwoofer with very slim profile, then STF-1 should work very nicely. That said, if you have a more flexible budget and don't mind the larger enclosure size of the STF-2, then that will give even deeper bass extension and higher output capability with very good sound quality too.

I received my STF-2 today and set it in the same place my velodyne used to be. I ran through my receiver's auto cal and popped in Patricia Barber's "Modern Cool" SACD and Wow! This IS a true subwoofer. Since then, I have been going through CDs and movies and really enjoying this sub. Thank you Hsu Research for a great product and an even better buying experience.

Thank you to Pete and the gang at Hsu Research for processing my upgrade from the STF-2 to the VTF-2 MK3, you guys are so easy to deal with. The STF-2 is a great sub but after spending time with it and knowing that you guys had subs even better, my conscience wouldn't let me rest. The VTF-2 MK3 compliments my KEF IQ9 system very well and I can't believe I'm realizing 16Hz bass with my Pioneer 1018 set at -20db listening level. Awesome. The ULS-15 is definitely out of my price range but I got a bonus coming and there still is the VTF-3 MK3...hhhmmmmmmm

I moved up to a VTF3 from a STF 2 not long ago, and the VTF3 is definitely a big jump in bass. However, I hooked the STF 2 up to a studio monitor system I had, and started listening to tunes in my bedroom studio to see how it sounded. The STF 2 was so fun to listen to it was addicting, I really had to stop myself from just sitting there listening to tunes all day long. I don't know why I love to listen to that sub so much when the VTF3 is much better, but it still kicks so much ass. I love both my subs, and my HB1's, thank you so much, HSU research!

The vtf3 mk3 is a beast, but the 2.3 is an excellent performer too..
Huge upgrade from the STF-2 to the 2.3...Nice!!!
Enjoy!

If you decide to get the VTF-3 MK3, you wont be disappointed with it.
I watched The Hulk on Blu-ray tonight and was a bit worried the glass on our living room windows was going to come loose - Movies come alive with it.
That said, it sounds just as good playing music, and not boomy at all. It's an amazing piece of engineering - I highly recommend it.
Cheers,
Thor

If you look up the words "Hsu Research" in the audio dictionary you will see the description they give is "Addictive".
