My VT-12s and STF-2 arrived today (along with my wires)!

But now I've got some questions about setting them up:

1. I have a Yamaha HTR 5760 receiver (7.1). On the back, it has front center, front l & r, surround l & r, and rear surround l & r. No center rear. Is it possible to hook up the rear speaker from the VT-12 to this receiver? I'm guessing I might be able to if I run the left and right rear surround channels to the rear center speaker (left rear runs to top posts, right rear runs to bottom). Is this correct? I don't want to damage anything. Btw, here's a picture:

2. I put the front center on top of my TV. It's a 32" Zenith (C32V37). There is JUST enogh room for the front center speaker. Maybe 1/2" of room to spare before the top of the TV starts to slant downwards. Is this ok? Is the center speaker light enough to put on top of the TV?

STF-2 questions:
3. The receiver doesn't have a subwoofer out, but it has a subwoofer preout. The Yamaha manual states to run a regular subwoofer cable to the preout, assuming you have an amplified subwoofer. Can I do this with the Hsu (instructions 1 in the Hsu manual, I think) , or do I have to follow the other instructions (instructions 3, I think). btw, here's a picture:

Not sure about wiring as I don't have a vt12

Yes you can put the speaker on top of the TV

Subwoofer out and pre-out are used interchangeably. Just go from the subwoofer pre-out to subwoofer input on the STF-2

Well, if it turns out I can't wire the rear center to my 7.1 receiver, I wonder if Hsu would be willing to let me exchange the rear center for two more sats (with me paying the difference, of course). Given how funky that rear speaker is and how people have been having trouble hooking it up, I'm surprised they don't move to 7.1 (or at least have an option).

I was in the exact same boat last night when all of my equipment arrived. I happened across the answer in the manual.

1. Go to the speaker setup menu, and set the surround back speakers to SMLx1.
2. Add the jumpers to the rear center speaker.
3. Connect the rear center speaker to the LEFT surround back speaker terminal on the receiver.

Incase anyone out there's listening, I still think it's ludicrous that the HSU won't sell us 7.1 users an extra rear, or let us trade the rear center channel plus few more bucks for two of the regular satellites. I doubt there's anything in the HSU hardware that won't work for 7.1...I called yesterday and they said they just couldn't break up a set to sell individual satellites and that all that they had in stock were for warranty replacements...NOTE TO HSU: you could break down a couple of sets and have 8 satellites, and 2 each of the center channel speakers to either sell or use for warranties!

anyway that's my $0.02. just thought I would help anyone else w/ a 5760 receiver - and vent, of course. :)
