Hiall!

I found this following quote on the VT-12 Ventriloquist speakers page under the specs.

___________________________________
In addition to the sound quality, a special rear center channel allows 6 channel sound from 5 channel sources. The system works by matrixing the back rear channels.

Question. I'm thinking about buying a 7.1 channel Onkyo 606 which has alot of heating issues, I know, but originally ONLY going to use the 5.1 channel.

This 10'w x 15'L x 8'h room is kind of small for a 7.1 channel system. TV hung on the long wall. Sitting around 9' opposite TV.

This Performance 1 speaker package is a 6.1 channel package. In the above quote, does it mean that the "special rear" 6th channel speaker is different than the other four satellite speakers as far as being matched?

Would I get a better effect buying another pair of matched satellites (if the the VT-12 are different than that rear 6th speaker to maybe go for the 7.1?

If I have a center, two fronts, two rears,a sub, I would have to purchase an addtional satelite speaker for the two side (L&R) to get the full 7.1 effects? Seems silly for a small room to put speakers in the corner, then another one 5' away on both the right and left side walls for this small room.

Does HSU sell 5.1 channel systems, or only 6.1?
Will that 6th rear center do anything at all as far as maximizing the surround effects,or is it just another center voice speaker that happens to be in the back?

EDIT - The next day-----
I was just looking at the Yamaha RX-V563,and it comes with DTS:NEO 6, which matrixes the rear center channel into the rear L&R channels. In this case, I could either use this 6th rear center channel, or put it in storage and buy two additional $40.00 satellites for the sides...one over the couch in center of wall, and one on the right side on the wall before the wall turns into the kitchen. Bummer about this AVR is it's not Energy start compliant. ( good thing, Hdmi 4in, 1out)

So what's better.... 6.1,or 7.1?

I'm thinking abouth the Performance package 1 for mu very small 12'x10' room.
Some of the AVR's I'm looking at like the Yamaha RX-V563 and the 565 have this feature, and so does a few of the Pioneer models like the 1018, qnad the soon to be released this spring, the 1019AH-K.

So has anyone bought any of the 6.1 packages and is using the 6th rear-channel speaker and the DTS:NEO 6 feature, and how does it sound?

Nevermind on the NEO-6 thing. I guess it's meant for playing music through the 6 channels, and has nothing to do with the rear-center speaker.

The rear center does add some ambience, but if you do not use it the difference is not gigantic. Yes the speaker is slightly different. No the sound is not a mirror of the front center channel.

The VT-12 is a nice well balanced system and it should not stress your Onkyo as it is fairly efficient. Of course monter volume may change things.

I have the VT-12 with an Onkyo and have not problems (txsr-601)

Neo 6.1 sounds good and Neuro 7.1 and PLIIX 7.1 are even more enveloping: My favorite are NEO 6.1 and Neuro 7.1 for music. I use VT-12 for my gaming HT:

Panasonic Viera Plasma TH42PX80U
Sony 7.1 a/v receiver STR-DG720
Sony PS3(games, blue-ray, CD, SACD)
HSU 7.1 VT-12 Ventriloquist speakers
Onkyo subwoofer (might be replaced by HSU STF-2 one day)

Well,
After looking and waiting a long time for an AVR, I went with the Yamaha RX-V665 / 7.2 ch. receiver. The speakers are the VT-12 6.1 performance II, with the STF-2 Sub.
Not set up yet, as I am pouring over the AVR manual. I know the ventriloquist setup is unconventional with the left rear and right rear going into the receiver, and both left and right rears ALSO wired into the rear-center channel, instead of having the center-rear with it's own direct wire to the AVR.
Has anyone encountered any problems thus far with this set-up? Any hints,or suggestions?
By the way, them there guys at HSU are very helpful and knowledgeable to boot. Pete, Leo, and Ryan whom I dealt with, are very helpful and make this a delightful experience to deal with. I know I will have additional setup questions, and I know they are there to help any way they can. :-)
