The subwoofer according Mr. Sasha "the subwoofer is a genuine HSU subwoofer instead of a 'designed by HSU' subwoofer."

But Michael Bain said that "The VT-12 system also had a better subwoofer, the STF-1 subwoofer" (compared to gateway system)

In this thread Mr. Sasha also compaired it to SFT-1.

But according the gateway website, only the power is 150w, which is less than sft-2's 200w. Both have 10' woofer and similar dimention. The response is 23-180 dB (+-3dB) for gateway, which is similar to sft-2.
The back panel look simiar too:

Ddavidson posted a pic here for STF series, which looks different from current STF:

Gateway sub looks more like this one but different from the current STF-2. Mr. Sasha said "New model trivia: the amp will most likely be positioned on the narrow side with the port." in the same thread. So from the looking I think gateway SW303 is a old version of STF-2. But there is another statement by Sasha "They are not "HSU" subwoofers per se, but Gateway subwoofers that were "designed by Dr. Hsu". " in that thread too. I'm confused. The SW303 is not manufactured by Hsu, only DESIGNED? But I think SW303 is very close to STF-2 with less power.

So I do not know if the sub in gateway system (SW303) is similar to sft-1 or sft-2. Could any one can help to make it more clear? Officially how does the STF-2 compare to the Gateway Sub, or are the basically achieving the same end by two different means? Thank you very much!

I think the STF-2 is the closer match. The gateway actually has the cabinet of a BIC 1215 (a 12" sub) and the guts of an STF-2 (or close anyway).

I think Gateway advertises it as an HSU sub.

Basically the same end (or at least similar) by two different means.

Thanks!

So how does the gateway SW303 sound like? Does it still keep all the advantages of Hsu, still tight and accurate and very good extension? How big the difference between SW303 and STF-2?

I have never actually heard the SW303, but if it is as advertised, then it should sound good.
