View Full Version : Polarity is wrong?

I used YPAO on my HTR 5760 today (autosetup), and it reports that the polarity on my front right speaker is wrong. I checked all connections, and they look ok. Is this ok, or am I missing something? Should I have the Ventriliquist feature off when running autosetup?

Thanks,
Zoma

double check it again. you can run it either way.(Ventriloquist)

In addition to double checking the wire, there is a way to find out if the polarity is wrong between the amplifier/receiver and the Ventriloquist.

If the poliarity is wrong, when you flip the Ventriloquist effect ON there will be very little mid-bass. The bass from the left and right would be cancelling each other out.

The chances of the internal wiring being wrong are almost impossible.

As for autosetup, the Ventriloquist effect should be ON during this. We've had other's have some success with YPAO, but haven’t had a chance to check it out ourselves.

One thing to be careful of with YPAO is that the crossover between the subwoofer and satellites should be no higher than 80 Hz, and with the Ventriloquist no lower than 80 Hz. Sometimes YPAO will put in the wrong setting.

Hmmm...I've triple-checked the connections. All + wire goes to red plugs, and all red plugs go to red jacks (same check for the negative wires). Not sure what do now.

As for the crossover, YPAO DID put it at 160 hz! Changing it back was the first and only change I made. I may increase the rear speakers a bit. BTW, if I'm only doing a 5.1 setup, should the rear speakers be facing each other or at an angle? ie:

| ----- | vs / ------ \

As for the Ventriliquist effect, I can barely hear a difference with it on or off. Maybe my ears aren't good enough.

If you have one, try the phase test on a test DVD (such as Avia). With the right kind of pink noise, phase errors are very audible.
