I just received my VTF-2 and was wondering if there are acoustic differences depending on what surface the sub is on. I have a rather "bushy" rug and somebody suggested I try to procure a slab of granite or concreet to put the sub on as it would produce a "tighter" sound. Is this in fact true ... will it really make a difference? Would Wood also have a simiar affect?

Contrary to what was suggested elsewhere, a hard surface is definitely not wanted underneath the subwoofer. A hard surface will reflect sound dramatically, usually creating unwanted “side effects”. The same reasons Dr. Hsu puts Sonex (http://www.illbruck-sonex.com/) on his wall are why he recommends against downward firing subwoofers on hard surfaces.
For those that have hard floors, a throw rug underneath is advisable.

The higher frequencies that the Vtf-2 reproduces comes from the driver, but the lowest frequencies come from the port/s. As the frequency gets higher the direction of the sound becomes much more obvious, which is something you need to avoid if you want your Vtf-2 to blend in with the rest of your speakers.
I have found through trial and error (at least in my room) that you are best to run a rug under the Vtf-2 than have those higher frequencies hit a hard surface.
