ASW 1203S? I am about to place an order for a pair to replace 2 ASW2s that I am running with an MTX 2300 that is dying and I think I damaged both subs anyway. thinking about JL 500.1
Any other recommendations?
Thanks in advance.

The JL amp you mentioned would work well with two subs in parallel. When you run two subs in parallel on a mono amp, the amp must then be rated at 2 Ohms to work with our subwoofers, which are rated at 4 ohms. Running two subs "in parrallel" effectively halves the Ohms demands. In our case, it is from 4 to 2 Ohms. For those that don't know, running in parallel means that both subwoofers are fed from the same + and - speaker outputs.
Since the JL is *rated* at 500 watts at 1.5 Ohms, that means that each sub should get 250 watts if their ratings are honest.
Another option is to get a two channel amp that would work at 4 Ohms and in mono mode. These amps should work, and if I remember correctly go into mono mode. The Rockford Fosgate amp:

This Pheonix Gold amp can be bridged for 300 x 2 and has a steeper crossover than most, which seems like a good idea to me:

You told me you didn't like the MTX, but some others still think they are great:

Keep in mind it also depends on the enclosure size. I talked with you on the phone and know you had a custom enclosure built for the ASW1202 at around 1.5 cu. ft. That is the largest size we recommend before the deep bass begins to roll off, but the most efficient. The smaller the enclosure, the more amplifier power needed.
Also, you like to play loud, so why not get a bigger amp?
I recommend you get more towards 400 watts per subwoofer. The JL 1000.1 looked interesting. If you go over 400 per woofer, you are not allowed to turn the volume up too high for fear of breaking the subwoofer! The ASW1203 is rated at 400 watts, so we cannot officially recommend a 500 watt amp. Please let us know what happens.

thanks Sasha
Looking at the RF amp sounds like it would also supply 500 watts per woofer - same as the JL.

Well, actually its rated at 262.5W x 4 , but can be bridged to give more wattage like the JL. Used in a x 4 configuration, it would be fine. It is a very flexible amp.
No matter which brand you use, if you use more than 400 watts and play it too loud, it can bust the subwoofer.

I see - but if bridged, then it would be closed to the limit - wouldn't it.
I may go with JLs 1000.1
I'll keep you posted.
PS: Can you find out how sensetive the 1203s are?
Thanks for your help.

I am going with the 500.1 since it pumps out close to 730 watts.
The 1000.1 would have been too much with nearly 1350 watts.
Subs will be here on Saturday according to Fedex.
Thanks Sasha
