My receiver has two settings for each speaker, small or large. With small, the speakers are crossed over at 90Hz. With large, the speakers receive a full range signal.

For the subwoofer and main speakers, I have two options for bass, subwoofer or both. In subwoofer mode, LFE is sent to just the sub. With both, LFE is sent to the sub and the mains.

If I set the receiver to subwoofer, no signals for 2-channel music are sent to the sub.

With these circumstances, what would be my best configuration? I’d like to use the sub for 2-channel music, so I was thinking of setting center and surrounds to small, the mains to large, the sub to max extension mode with a 40Hz crossover and setting my receiver bass to both. That way, I’m not getting much duplicate bass, but I’m getting to use the deep extension of the sub all the time.

I just purchased the VTF-2 for my HT. I've attached a drawing of the family room where it is going to be (sorry for the poor quality) and would like to get some advice about placement.

Equipment:
I have a 65" LG tv mounted on the wall (top of picture). Under the set is a tv stand that holds my Klipsch RC-62. On each side of the tv stand I have Klipsch Bookshelf speakers RB-61. And two ceiling speakers above the couch to complete my 5.1. Have a Denon 2112 A/V receiver.

The family room dimensions are 15'x25'. It opens out to the kitchen (15'x15'). The two vertical blue lines are sliding glass doors. The short blue horizontal line is a window. The two brown vertical lines are open doorways going to the living room and dining room.

Currently I have the sub placed at position #1 in the corner of the family room. But from what I've read on other posts, it seems you recommend placing the sub more often behind the couch (#2), or besides it (#3). My wife thinks it would looks prohibitively out of place at position #2, and there isn't much space at position #3.

I'm also guessing that the VTF-2 will likely not be big enough for the room. If I keep it in position #1, I can upgrade it to a VTF-3. But if I need to place it in position #2 or #3, I doubt that my wife will allow anything bigger than the VTF-2.

I've been reading elsewhere about "driver sag" that eventually happens with many down firing subwoofers. I've also read that some sub drivers are constructed in such a way so that any sag is highly limited, or it doesn't happen to any noticeable degree. I own two VTF-2 MK4 down firing subs and am wanting to know what to expect from them regarding sag.

Have any of you experienced any sag with your Hsu down firing subwoofers, or do you know if the drivers in Hsu products are built to prevent this?

I just purchased the VTF-2 for my HT. I've attached a drawing of the family room where it is going to be (sorry for the poor quality) and would like to get some advice about placement.

Equipment:
I have a 65" LG tv mounted on the wall (top of picture). Under the set is a tv stand that holds my Klipsch RC-62. On each side of the tv stand I have Klipsch Bookshelf speakers RB-61. And two ceiling speakers above the couch to complete my 5.1. Have a Denon 2112 A/V receiver.

The family room dimensions are 15'x25'. It opens out to the kitchen (15'x15'). The two vertical blue lines are sliding glass doors. The short blue horizontal line is a window. The two brown vertical lines are open doorways going to the living room and dining room.

Currently I have the sub placed at position #1 in the corner of the family room. But from what I've read on other posts, it seems you recommend placing the sub more often behind the couch (#2), or besides it (#3). My wife thinks it would looks prohibitively out of place at position #2, and there isn't much space at position #3.

I'm also guessing that the VTF-2 will likely not be big enough for the room. If I keep it in position #1, I can upgrade it to a VTF-3. But if I need to place it in position #2 or #3, I doubt that my wife will allow anything bigger than the VTF-2.

some background on my system. For my (True Sub) I use a Rythmik F15HP sealed sub. I have a Denon 4311CI AVR and am using MKSound750 THX speakers. I run my Rythmik in max extension mode so it sacrifices some upper bass punch for max extension which is why I decided on the mid bass module.

I set it up exactly as recommended with the mid bass module behind my seating position and my true sub in the front right corner. I set the mbm in sealed mode since my sub is sealed. First thing I had to realize was that I needed to set up my rythmik subwoofer to have a 24db/oct highpass crossover. This sub has a switch on the back for 50hz 24db/oct so i switched that on and then adjusted the variable crossover to 50 per rythmiks instructions.

My receiver has Audyssey Multeq XT32 which has 2 sub outs on my receiver and is capable of setting up dual subwoofers. My first thought when i got the mbm was connect it to the 2nd sub out and let audyssey do its thing. I quickly learned this did not work well. First mistake I made was setting the crossover to 50 hz on my rythmik before running audyssey.

This caused audyssey to increase the gain on the true sub way too high as much as 10db too high. So then I ran audyssey first and set the crossover of the rythmik after. This got me closer but not there yet.

Next thing I realized was for this to work right I needed audyssey to see the sub as one not as two separate subs. So this time I set up the subs with a y adapter and plugged it into one sub out and ran audyssey this was the right way to do it.

I then realized I needed to correctly level match the mbm to my sub first so i used advice on here to correctly level match the two. It worked perfectly. it is as follows. get an spl reading on the mains match that to the mbm. then level match the true sub to the mains with its crossover disengaged. engage the crossover turn on the mbm and level match them both to the mains using the receiver trim.

I then reran ausyssey but now it was setting the crossover of my mains way too high (150hz). I moved things around trying all types of positions with the subs and even adjusting the position of my mains. I was really frustrated by this point. Audyssey always set my crossover to 150hz.

So I studied how audyssey was eq'ing things and could see I had a problem with my front right speaker. A lightbulb went off...Phase. I set the Phase on the mbm to 180 since it was behind my listening position. Reran Audyssey and got perfect results. Audyssey set my mains to 90hz rears to 120hz and adusted the trim of the subs down nearly 10db. There was obviously some mad compensation going on by Audyssey.

The MBM is now fully and correctly integrated, and all I can say is...:eek: Its all that and a bag of chips. Super accurate and articulate. Its got mid bass punches in bunches. I am in heaven. My neighbors are probably not.

The phase thing really confused me because audyssey gives the advice to always keep phase at 0. however setting up an mbm is confusing to audyssey because it thinks its eq'ing one sub but its trying to eq 2 at 2 different locations playing 2 different freq ranges. Setting the Phase on the mbm first allowed audyssey to then successfully tweak the phase of the true sub correctly.

I have a questions about your bookshelf speakers and center speaker, I recently purchased you vtf2mk4 sub and all I can say is it's amazing. I am using infinity primus 162 for the front left and right and the primus 350 3way center channel. I think they sound good but I want to upgrade them with better sounding speakers. My receiver is a denon 2112. I was looking at your bookshelf speakers and center. Can you honestly tell me that I would notice a better difference in sound quality? And if so how? That being said, im looking for some advise from the more experienced HT folk, and the bar is not set that high, seeing that this is my first HT subwoofer purchase. I have a pic of my basement (some areas incomplete as of now, but the ones that matter are.:D) Also, my current receiver is a Yamaha HTR-5860 (likely to be upgraded soon, maybe next winter) and the speakers are five HIW-1s.
