Hard white stuff

I removed HB-1 speaker grills for the first time since purchased. One speaker was clean, the other had this hard white stuff on the surface of the speaker I was able to scrape off but was wondering if others had experienced this. I don’t think the was any degradation in sound, but I don’t want to crank up the sound if the cone is somehow weakened

It sounds like mold. Did you take a picture?
