VT-12 and 7.1 receiver setup

I've just purchased the VT-12 speakers and have a 7.1 receiver on it's way. Since the VT-12 are either 5.1 or 6.1, would it be better to set up the speakers as a 6.1 on the 7.1 amp, or as a 5.1...

The Onkyo receiver is a 6.1 setup, so you'll need...
