Eddy,

My take is that the volume gain is exponential so that by turning it down at the source (Yamaha) you are able to tune it in easier at the sub - it worked for me & some of the other Yamaha...

No worries, I went through the same experience with my sub, didn't even use the meter - couldn't understand the stuff anyway... what I wound up doing was setting my LFE lower on the receiver...
