Of all of the subwoofers that I have owned, room acoustic variations can be the single most important and telling variable. Getting the best position requires a whole lot of patience, and is very time consuming. But regardless, getting that position is "important", even if you are going to be using a parametric (you can turn a sows ear into a silk purse). The acoustic problem with most rooms is why eq'ing subwoofers (for your main listening position) is growing in popularity. With so many filters available in the BFD1124 and the DEQ2496 for such little money they can be a great addition to your final sound balance.
