Dual VTF-2 MK5 or VTF-3 MK5 HP?

My room size is 18ft x 13ft x 8 ft, and my main use would be for movies; I have two open doorways, one in the front the other in the back of the room. I am looking for the deep chest-thumping but also love to hear those bass lows as well.

I didn't know if one VTF-2 would be good enough (maybe tuned properly to give the sound I am looking for), but read that duals are the way to go. Or perhaps just one VTF-3 is more then enough. I have read people are happy with just one VTF-2, some have the duals and say they love it, some have just one VTF-3 and love that as well. I have not found anyone that has had a VTF-2, then upgraded to either duals or one VTF-3 (or upgraded to two VTF-3); it would be great to know if someone went through this process to hear their opinion on if it really makes that much difference. Obviously on paper it seems like the more the better, but in reality, if one is to have tested such a scenario to experience the difference of each circumstance or a similar one, then this would be of more value.

Really just don't want to spend more money if it's not going to be such a dramatic difference.
Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hi there!

Where are you seated in that room? Certainly, we've had customers that have started out with one and wound up getting two and to them it made a pretty big difference.

It ultimately depends on your preferences, but if you generally listen to moderate, occasionally moderately loud levels, I would say the VTF-2 Mk5 should be a good choice. I think probably the biggest thing that may be a challenge is the room acoustic interactions with the sub. It's quite possible that with a single sub (regardless of model), you may end up getting some significant dips in the mid-bass especially at your listening position, with the sub placed up front. What that would sound like is the sub will lack punch/definition and sometimes would sound weak depending on the material. So I would actually try placing the sub along the back corner to see if that gives you a better sub response overall. You still may get a bit of a dip around 20-25 Hz or so, but that may be worth the tradeoff. What may end up being a good way to go is to go with two VTF-2 Mk5's to give you a smoother response. You can always start off with one to see how that works out for you.

Hi Kevin,
Thank you! I appreciate your time and advice. I will contemplate on which sub to start off with. Seems like if I start with the VTF-3 MK5, instead of wondering if the VTF-2 should ever be upgraded to a dual, and could always go with a dual VTF-3 a year down the road perhaps if need be. Guess that's it for now. Take care, and thanks again!

Sounds good! Yea a single VTF-3 and potentially upgrading to two down the road would be even better.
