CCB-8 with single ended triode amp.

Hello, new to the forum, and was wondering if anyone has experience using a pair of CCB-8's in conjunction with a lower powered SIT tube amp, in the 8 to 10 watt range, for a two channel music system. Have tried KEF LS50s and found the top end was a bit harsh for the bedroom set up I have. I have done quite a bit of research on smaller, efficient speakers including the HSU, and any info or advice would be appreciated! Thank you.

Hi there,

The CCB-8's should work fine with the SIT tube amp. They are not very difficult to drive, and they are fairly efficient speakers (more efficient than the LS50). In terms of how they would compare, that's hard to say. I haven't listened to that particular speaker, but I do know Steve Guttenberg has reviewed them and stated that they are a bit more fuller sounding and less present in the HF over the q350s (larger driver variant of the LS50). So the CCB-8's may be what you are looking for in that arena.

Thank you for the response! The KEF speakers are not very sensitive, so that may have contributed to the less than ideal top end sound, the little amp may not have been able to drive them on upper transients...these HSU speakers may be the way to go, from every indication of the online reviews this may be best idea for my application. I was hoping there might have been someone on this forum using them with lower-wattage amps that could give an opinion.
