stf2 as back firing make sense?

I've had my stf2 for over a year and have been very happy with it although with a cathedral ceiling I might want to eventually look at something larger.

The sub has been placed in a corner right next to the main listening position. Last night, on a whim, I turned it on it's side so that it now back fires into the wall directly behind the listening area instead of down into the carpet. I think I like the sound better and thought I'd just throw it out there to ask if the idea is just silly or if it makes sense at all? If I do leave it as is how far away from the wall should it be placed? Right now it's about 6 inches but I have lots of room to slide it closer or further away form the wall.

Good evening cebbigh,

Some people do prefer orienting the subwoofer so that it is not downfiring, and vice versa. As long as it sounds better to your ears, go for it. You should have no problems with placing the woofer even as close as about 3" away from the wall.
