STF-3 vs. VTF-3 Mk 2

Hi,

I am looking at purchasing a used Hsu subwoofer. I can choose between a STF-3 and a VTF-3 "Mk 2" and the price difference between the two is about $100. I talked to someone at Hsu today who was very helpful and mentioned that both of them most likely would be out of warranty.

Which would you choose? Is the VTF-3 worth $100 more than the STF-3? They seem fairly similar but it's hard to tell as I've yet to hear them.

Thanks!

I would ask Hsu if the current plate amps can fit on the cabinets for those models. When the amps on those models go, you will want to be able to replace it easily, whichever you get.

Thanks, the nice fellow I talked to at Hsu said that servicing either of these units would not be an issue.

Should I expect the amp to go bad on one of these? How much does a replacement amp cost?

Also, do you have any insight on the sound quality of one sub versus the other? I'm not much of a bass head and enjoy a very "tight" base which is why I'm looking at a Hsu sub in the first place. My room is very large, it's basically a 15x30x9 great room that's completely open on both sides.

Thanks again!

Hi there,

Can't really speak on the value of the subs. I will say that the VTF-3 Mk2 it would be able to play deeper to 18 Hz and give you more tuning options to allow you to achieve a more tighter bass (in max extension mode).

Sincerely,
Kevin

Thanks for your input, everyone. I actually had a chance to hear both and the difference between the STF3 and the VTF3 was minimal, so I went with the STF3

Loving this sub!!!
